The Federal Government has commenced the disbursement of the newly approved N77,000 monthly allowance to members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

This development follows the earlier commitment by NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, who assured corps members that the revised allowance would take effect from March 2025.

Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, also confirmed that outstanding payments from previous months would be settled.

Reports indicate that corps members began receiving bank alerts for the new allowance on Wednesday, with many expressing relief over the increase.

A corps member serving in Lagos, identified as Chinedu, shared his excitement: “I just checked my account balance and saw N77,000 credited from the Federal Government. This is a huge relief.”

Jeremiah Olatinwo, publisher of Corpers Diary, an online community for NYSC members, also verified the payments, stating, “Yes, corps members have started receiving their new allowance in line with the newly approved minimum wage.”

The Federal Government had announced the revised NYSC stipend in September 2024, aligning it with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024. However, implementation faced multiple delays despite government assurances.
