Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has expressed confidence that Nigeria’s electricity sector is on the brink of significant transformation, thanks to foundational reforms initiated under the Bola Tinubu administration.
Addressing reporters after Eid-el-Kabir prayers at Agodi in Ibadan on Friday, Adelabu said structural deficiencies that have plagued the country’s power sector for decades are now being actively addressed.
“We’ve tackled some of the deep-rooted structural challenges in the sector,” he said. “What you’re seeing now is just the beginning. Greater improvements are on the way.”
According to the minister, President Tinubu remains committed to ensuring that electricity reaches all parts of the country, from residential areas to commercial and industrial zones.
Referencing the recent commissioning of a power facility in Port Harcourt, Adelabu said the president had reaffirmed his intention to “light up” the country, and the ministry is aligning its actions with that vision.
He emphasised that although noticeable progress has been made since he took office in late 2023, the full impact of the government’s efforts will be felt in the coming year.
“Within the next 12 months, Nigerians will experience real, widespread change, from revived small businesses to industries operating at full capacity,” Adelabu added.
