A member of the House of Representatives, Dr. Ahmed Adamu Saba, representing Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency of Kwara State, has been accused of defrauding a constituent of ₦5 million under the pretext of securing him an official international passport through a fraudulent job appointment . The victim, Ahmed Kabir, disclosed in an exclusive interview that the lawmaker, whom he once considered a “brother,” exploited his trust and used his political office to intimidate him into silence after the scheme failed .

According to Kabir, he approached Saba for assistance in obtaining an official passport, and the lawmaker proposed appointing him as a legislative aide to facilitate the process. Kabir transferred ₦3.5 million to the Moniepoint account of Saba’s aide, Zakari Dauda Mohammed, and paid an additional ₦1.5 million in cash at Saba’s direct instruction . Despite the payment, Kabir never received the passport. Instead, he was allegedly threatened by Saba, who warned him against exposing the arrangement .

Kabir revealed that after community elders intervened, Saba refunded ₦500,000 through his Chief of Staff, Malam Hussain, but later demanded the return of the refund. Though Kabir agreed, Hussain never provided account details for the repayment . Kabir also claimed Saba appointed him as a “ghost” legislative aide, allowing him to receive a federal salary for five months, but the lawmaker allegedly collected the entire salary each month through Zakari’s account .

In response, Saba dismissed the allegations as a smear campaign by political opponents. He admitted Kabir was his aide but denied personally collecting any money, attributing the failure to secure the passport to the SGF’s refusal to approve it due to similar issues involving a senator . Saba also claimed Kabir was being manipulated by enemies to tarnish his reputation .

Kabir has called on the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Ethics and Privileges Committee to investigate the matter, emphasizing that it reflects broader issues of integrity and accountability among elected officials . This incident adds to existing controversies surrounding Saba, including a separate legal dispute over alleged unpaid legal fees and past accusations of certificate forgery .
