Nollywood performer Olanrewaju James, better known as Baba Ijesha, has finished his sentence for harming a young girl but stays guilty in the eyes of the law, say city leaders. They have put his name on a public roll of those who commit such crimes to warn others and guard kids.
Back in 2021, police caught the actor for wrong acts against a 14-year-old girl. A court in Lagos found him guilty in July 2022 of unwanted touching and bad treatment of a child. He got five years for the first charge and three for the second, to run at the same time.
Higher judges in June 2024 kept the 2021 ruling but dropped old claims from years before. The top court tossed his last plea in October 2025 for not following rules. He walked free after serving the full time, not because bosses let him off.
A video clip showed him in a car after release, looking glad and saying he needed quiet time. But a fellow actor spread wrong news online that courts cleared him, which upset city lawyers.
The top law officer, Lawal Pedro, called those tales lies that could scare folks. He said the actor still stands guilty and warned against sharing fake stories, as it breaks city rules on false reports.
The city team against home and sex harm now lists Baba Ijesha under a 2021 law to track such people. This helps keep records straight and shields young ones from risks. A female comic pushed for his spot on the list in a live chat last week.
City bosses say the move backs fair play and true facts for all. They told people to skip bad rumours and let the law guide them.
