Authorities in Lagos have locked a building site and warned another spot in the Lekki-Ikoyi area to pull down extra structures within three days, due to work done without the needed go-aheads.
Teams from the state building watchdog closed off a half-built block on Femi Okunnu Road in Alexander Avenue on Thursday. The builders had skipped the proper paperwork, which helps keep projects safe and stops messy growth in the city.
In a fresh alert, the group gave QMB Mart just 72 hours to clear out wrong additions along Coastal Road and below power lines. A top planner for the governor, Dr Olajide Abiodun, said the land was set aside only for car parking. “Those using it turned it into a shop area, putting up a wash place, club room, and food spot without checks,” he explained. He added that all building in Lagos must stick to the rules, and changing what public land is for without okay is against the law. The team wants to guard the city’s big plan for tidy growth.
The watchdog’s boss, Gbaye Florence, promised steady checks on all work zones. “We make sure homes and blocks here meet top safety marks. Builders who skip approvals will get caught, tagged, and hit with firm steps,” she said.
The drive will roll out across Lagos to wipe out shady builds and make the place safer and better laid out. Planners aim to watch every site in the 57 local councils and add-on areas, to shield lives and goods by sticking to set standards. “We’ll send teams to every council spot. Our aim is to hit all building work in Lagos, and the best way is to rope in everyday people,” Abiodun noted.
