The Federal Government has renamed the University of Maiduguri in Borno State as Muhammadu Buhari University of Maiduguri in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The announcement was made during a special session of the Federal Executive Council held to commemorate Buhari’s contributions to national development.
According to the Ministry of Education, President Bola Tinubu approved the renaming in recognition of Buhari’s commitment to education, national security, and institutional reform.
In a statement issued Friday, the Ministry described the gesture as a lasting tribute to Buhari’s legacy, particularly his administration’s investment in human capital through reforms like the Treasury Single Account and social intervention programmes.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa, praised the decision, describing it as a reaffirmation of education’s central role in national development.
