Leading Nigerian medical organisations have outlined urgent measures required to address the escalating healthcare crisis fueled by the continuous migration of medical professionals abroad. The Nigerian Medical Association, National Association of Resident Doctors, and other allied health bodies have jointly presented their recommendations to governmental authorities.

The collective emphasised that immediate intervention is necessary to reverse the troubling trend of healthcare workers leaving the country in search of better working conditions overseas. They identified inadequate remuneration, poor infrastructure, and limited career advancement opportunities as primary factors driving the mass departure.

Specific proposals include the substantial improvement of salary structures for medical personnel across all levels. The associations also stressed the critical need for modernising healthcare facilities and ensuring consistent availability of essential medical supplies and equipment.

The medical bodies further highlighted the importance of creating more conducive working environments and implementing policies that recognise and reward professional excellence. They cautioned that without decisive governmental action, the nation’s healthcare system would continue to face severe staffing shortages.

The recommendations were presented as a comprehensive framework aimed at retaining skilled medical practitioners and revitalising Nigeria’s healthcare sector to meet international standards.
