The National Assembly has temporarily suspended all legislative business following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The decision was made to allow lawmakers and government officials to honour Buhari’s legacy and take part in his burial arrangements. The late president, aged 82, passed away in London after a period of illness.
In a formal notice to members, the leadership of both chambers directed that sittings will resume after July 22. Lawmakers were encouraged to make time for the ceremonies marking Buhari’s final rites, which are scheduled to take place in Daura, Katsina State.
The House of Representatives honoured Buhari’s memory, calling his passing the end of a defining chapter in Nigeria’s leadership history.
