Nigeria’s top narcotics squad has urged people to steer clear of phony cannabis sold as a cure for pains and other ills. The warning follows a raid in Lagos where officers nabbed a man peddling the fake stuff as real medicine.
The suspect, a 35-year-old named Chinedu Okoro, got caught in Ojo with over 50 kilograms of dried leaves mixed with harmful extras. He claimed it helped with body aches, sleep woes, and stress, but tests showed it packed toxic bits that could wreck health.
The agency’s head, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, said crooks are cashing in on the buzz around legal weed for health by hawking junk that does more harm than good. He stressed that no such product is okay under Nigerian law, and buyers risk jail or sickness.
In the bust, the team also seized bags, scales, and cash from sales. Okoro now faces charges for pushing banned drugs and scams. The squad vows to hunt down more fakers and smash their setups to keep folks safe.
