The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has urged Nigerians travelling to the United States to strictly follow the purpose stated in their visa applications.
Speaking in Abuja, NIS spokesperson Akinsola Akinlabi said the warning followed concerns from U.S. authorities about visa misuse by some Nigerians.
“Any violation of visa terms, including overstaying or engaging in activities outside what was approved, can lead to cancellation, deportation and even permanent travel bans,” Akinlabi stated.
He reminded students in the U.S. to stay enrolled in active study programmes, warning that unauthorised withdrawal or prolonged absence could cost them their visa status.
Akinlabi also noted that U.S. consular officers may reject tourist visas if they suspect applicants plan to travel to give birth to secure citizenship for their child.
Calling for compliance, he added: “Respecting visa rules is the only way to safeguard travel opportunities for Nigerians.”
