Students hoping to gain admission into Nigerian universities and other higher institutions must now be at least 16 years old, a rule the Federal Government says is final.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the directive during a recent policy gathering with education stakeholders, stating that the age benchmark is final and “non-negotiable.”

He emphasised that the age rule aims to ensure students are developmentally ready for the academic and social demands of higher learning.

Authorities also issued a warning to institutional heads: anyone caught manipulating admission processes or bypassing the age rule will face legal consequences.
