NYSC members in Bauchi have been urged to play a key role in tackling insecurity by reporting cases of illegal arms possession and production.
Speaking at the state’s orientation camp, Maj. Gen. Abubakar Adamu (Rtd.), Northeast Zonal Coordinator of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons, said youth involvement is vital in reducing crimes like banditry, kidnapping, and cultism.
“If you know anyone making or using illegal weapons, report them. Without these arms, there would be no banditry, violence, or insurgency,” he told the corps members.
He also proposed forming a special NYSC group in Bauchi to raise awareness about the dangers of small arms, similar to one already running in Borno State.
The NYSC state coordinator welcomed the plan and promised to work with the centre to make it happen.
