PDP is Better Off Without Atiku, Says Minister Wike

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has downplayed concerns over the state of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s defection is no loss to the party.

During a media session in Abuja on Monday, Wike said the party remains intact and must move forward by respecting internal democratic decisions, especially the South-South zonal congress that produced Chief Daniel Orbi as National Vice Chairman.

He accused the PDP’s acting National Chairman of resisting the congress under false claims, saying such actions ignore the voice of party members in the South-South.

Wike didn’t hold back on Atiku, describing his political journey as unstable.

“Atiku has moved from party to party since 1999 just to get a presidential ticket. If I were his son, I would question why he is still doing this at almost 80,” Wike remarked.

He believes Atiku left PDP simply because he saw no clear path to clinch the 2027 ticket.

According to Wike, calls for a coalition against President Tinubu are driven more by personal ambition than party strategy.

On David Mark’s defection, Wike offered brief criticism, questioning the former Senate President’s track record.

In Wike’s view, the PDP stands a better chance of regaining its footing without distractions from leaders who, in his words, “place personal ambition above party unity.”
