Operatives from the Rivers State Police Command have arrested three suspected kidnappers who allegedly killed one of their victims after collecting a ransom of N6.9 million .
The suspects were identified as Hassan Mohammed (20) from Borno State, Bello Abubakar (25) from Sokoto State, and Yusuf Ahmed (23) from Bauchi State . According to the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, the arrests followed an investigation into the abduction of a man named Humphrey Wagbara, which was reported on 26th August 2025 .
A coordinated operation was carried out by the Anti-Cultism Unit in the early hours of 19th September, leading to the arrest of the suspects in different parts of Obio/Akpor and Ikwerre Local Government Areas . During interrogation, the men voluntarily confessed to their involvement in multiple kidnappings in the state .
The police stated that the suspects were also responsible for kidnapping another individual, Mercy Chinyere, on 12th September at the same location. They collected a ransom of N3.5 million before releasing her .
Several items were recovered from the suspects, including a G-3 rifle, a magazine, a knife, and a mobile phone belonging to the victim, Humphrey Wagbara . The suspects remain in police custody while detectives work to track down other members of their criminal syndicate .
