President Bola Tinubu has requested Senate confirmation of Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede as the substantive Chief of Army Staff, following the death of his predecessor, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, on November 5.

The request, made in accordance with Section 218(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Section 18(1) of the Armed Forces Act, was disclosed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu expressed confidence in Oluyede’s leadership, professional integrity, and ability to ensure national security.

Oluyede, appointed Acting Chief of Army Staff on October 30, previously served as the 56th Commander of the Infantry Corps in Jaji, Kaduna.
