Nigerian music once again took the global spotlight at Coachella 2025, with Seun Kuti and Rema delivering performances that celebrated Afrobeat heritage and modern Afropop flair.
Seun Kuti, backed by his father’s legendary band, Egypt 80, energised the audience on Friday with a set that paid homage to Fela Kuti’s revolutionary spirit. Opening with a powerful tribute track, Seun blended bold stage presence with raw instrumentation, reinforcing Afrobeat’s enduring global relevance. The appearance marked his third time at Coachella, making him the most frequent Nigerian performer in the festival’s history.
Rema, stepping onto the Coachella stage for the first time on Sunday, brought a modern twist with his chart-topping hits. Although his late arrival led to a shortened performance, the young star made a strong impression with dynamic renditions of fan favorites. His brief set still managed to stir the crowd, highlighting his growing international appeal.
Their performances added to Nigeria’s deepening imprint on Coachella’s global platform, following in the footsteps of previous acts like Burna Boy, Tems, and Fireboy DML.
From Seun’s activist roots to Rema’s Gen Z stardom, this year’s edition reaffirmed that Nigerian music isn’t just trending, it’s trailblazing.
