Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has joined French club Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer until June 2027. The 25-year-old forward completed her move after leaving Atletico Madrid following four and a half seasons with the Spanish club.
PSG announced Ajibade’s arrival on their official social media platforms with a welcome video showing her being introduced to the club’s facilities by fellow Nigerian Jennifer Echegini, who also plays for PSG. This makes Ajibade the sixth Nigerian to represent the French giants.
“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce the arrival of Nigerian striker who has joined the club on a deal that runs until 30th June 2027,” the club said in a statement.
Speaking to PSG’s website, Ajibade expressed her excitement about the move. “I’m deeply honoured to be joining Paris Saint-Germain, a top-drawer club in Europe. This is a major step for me, and I’m committed to giving my all to help PSG win titles and to inspire young footballers, be they in Nigeria or elsewhere,” she said.
The signing ends speculation about a possible move to America. Ajibade joins PSG after leading Nigeria to victory at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where she was named the tournament’s best player.
Born in the Mushin district of Lagos on 8 December 1999, Ajibade began her football career with FC Robo Queens in Lagos before moving to Europe. Her arrival strengthens PSG’s squad as they aim to reclaim the French women’s league title they last won in 2021.
The forward’s move to PSG represents another significant step in her career after successful spells in Spain. She will team up with Echegini to provide Nigerian representation in the PSG squad as they compete in domestic and European competitions.
