At the BRICS Summit in Brazil, President Bola Tinubu urged member states to steer global reforms that prioritize the needs of developing countries, especially in climate justice, healthcare access, and financial equity.

Tinubu emphasised hat although African nations contribute minimally to global emissions, they bear the heaviest climate burdens. He called for more support through clean energy investments, debt relief, and fairer access to climate financing.

He also highlighted Nigeria’s current push to transition into renewable energy, improve urban resilience, and provide universal healthcare, all in line with sustainable development goals.

Now formally a BRICS partner, Nigeria seeks a more active role in shaping global economic decisions, especially those affecting emerging markets. Tinubu stressed that a future built on equity must also reflect the aspirations of Africa’s growing youth population.

Nigeria’s inclusion in BRICS, announced earlier this year, reflects its growing influence as a regional power and its strategic alignment with the group’s goals for global reform.
