President Bola Tinubu has sent another batch of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for screening, days after forwarding the first three names.
The list includes former INEC Chairman Mahmud Yakubu, ex-Enugu governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and former presidential aide Reno Omokri. According to presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, the nominees consist of 15 career diplomats and 17 non-career appointees, with 10 women included overall.
Other notable names on the non-career list include former Lagos Deputy Governor Femi Pedro, ex-Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, former Oyo First Lady Florence Ajimobi, and Senator Jimoh Ibrahim.
The candidates, once confirmed, will be posted to strategic countries such as China, India, Canada, UAE, South Africa, and major global missions like the UN and AU.
This follows last week’s nomination of three diplomats, including Ayodele Oke, Amin Dalhatu, and Lateef Are, who are being considered for postings to the UK, USA, or France.
The presidency says more names will be announced in phases as part of its diplomatic deployment plan.
