Following recent violence in parts of Benue State, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has relocated corps members from crisis-hit areas to safer locations in Makurdi.
Benue State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba, confirmed that the evacuation took place immediately after the unrest began in Yelewata and Daudu communities.
She said the NYSC worked closely with the police to move the corps members to safe places, including Christian, Catholic, and Muslim corps fellowship houses in the state capital.
“We treat corps members like our children,” she said. “Once we got reports of the crisis, we contacted the police and ensured they were safely evacuated. Thankfully, none were missing after a headcount.”
Mrs. Garba reassured parents that their children are safe and that security has been stepped up in the affected areas. She also expressed hope that calm would return soon, especially as security agencies have been deployed to Benue.
