NAMA Unions Suspend Planned Strike After Progress in Pay Talks

A coalition of aviation unions under the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has suspended its planned strike following what it called “positive developments” in ongoing negotiations over salary increases.

The strike, which was set to begin on Monday, August 11, was called off after the unions received assurances that new remuneration will be paid alongside August salaries.

They also cited the release of a “no objection” letter from the Budget Office to the National Salaries and Wages Commission, clearing the way for the payment process.

Union leaders credited NAMA’s management, the Minister of Aviation, and other officials for intervening to resolve the dispute.

“In order to demonstrate good faith, we have decided to defer the strike until the end of August while we monitor progress,” the unions said in a joint statement.

Staff have been urged to remain hopeful as discussions continue.
