Two Nigerians have been recognised by the United Kingdom for their frontline role in humanitarian response as the world observed World Humanitarian Day 2025.
The honourees are Dr. Ifuk-ibot John, a nutrition officer with the World Food Programme (WFP), and Wandu Zira George, who leads the Women Lead in Emergency project at CARE International.
Dr. John works in Nigeria’s northeast, where conflict and high food prices have deepened hunger. He also supports women survivors of violence, encouraging them to take part in community leadership and decision-making.
George has coordinated several initiatives in northern Nigeria, focusing on health, safety, and empowerment for women in crisis-affected areas.
The British High Commission in Nigeria said the pair exemplify the courage and commitment of aid workers who continue to deliver assistance in challenging environments.
