The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Region 52, has commenced a house renumbering exercise across streets in Surulere as part of efforts to improve security, emergency response, and community accessibility.
The initiative, flagged off over the weekend, also featured a health walk to promote physical well-being among residents.
Speaking at the launch, Pastor-in-Charge of Region 52, Olaniyan Samuel, explained that the move followed a survey which revealed that many homes in the area had either missing or faded house numbers.
“We discovered that most buildings around our church premises were difficult to identify due to poor or absent house numbering,” Olaniyan said. “We reached out to local CDAs and street associations, presented the plan, and received their backing to begin a full renumbering project.”
The programme forms part of RCCG’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, which according to the church, has funded interventions in healthcare, infrastructure, education, and poverty alleviation across Nigeria and abroad.
Leaders of the community have expressed support for the exercise. Chairman of the Fefooraad Community Development Association, Abel Oluwaseun, described the church’s intervention as timely and consistent with its past initiatives.
“RCCG has previously carried out clean-up exercises in our community, and this house-numbering project further proves their commitment to public welfare,” Oluwaseun said.
The church says it plans to sustain similar community-driven efforts in the coming months, with a focus on health, safety, and infrastructure.
