Five months after emergency rule was declared in Rivers State, a civic group has credited Sole Administrator Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.) with restoring order and guiding the state towards local government elections.
The National Patriotic Front, through its president Marcus Dakas, said Ibas’ leadership had reduced crime in Port Harcourt, reopened markets, and reassured residents of their safety. The group also highlighted ongoing work on public infrastructure, including the state assembly complex and the Mother and Child Hospital.
With council polls scheduled for August 30, the NPF said Rivers now has the stability required for credible elections.
“He has no hidden agenda but is only a steward of this transition,” Dakas stated.
Federal lawmakers recently visited the state and acknowledged the progress, with House Leader Prof. Julius Ihonvbere pledging support for democratic restoration.
