A top-level Nigerian government team led by Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in London to oversee the return of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s remains to Nigeria.
Buhari passed away on Sunday afternoon in a London hospital after a long illness. Following the news, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered the Vice President to personally lead the mission to ensure that the late leader is brought home with dignity.
The delegation includes key government figures such as the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila. Upon arrival in the UK on Monday morning, they were received by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum.
Their assignment is to coordinate final arrangements for Buhari’s repatriation and ensure that all protocols are properly followed.
Meanwhile, preparations are underway for a full state funeral, as the nation prepares to receive Buhari’s body and honour his legacy.
