The British High Commission in Nigeria has reaffirmed its support for legal migration and travel, amid reports that the UK may tighten visa rules for Nigerians and citizens of other countries.
A spokesperson for the Commission said on Wednesday, “We keep our immigration system under constant review to allow legal migration and legitimate travel while deterring those who may seek to abuse it.”
This follows a report that the UK is considering stricter visa rules for Nigeria, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, citing high rates of overstaying and asylum claims.
“Our UK and Nigeria people-to-people links are strong and enduring,” the Commission added. “We continue to work closely with the government of Nigeria to tackle irregular migration.”
