Hundreds of Nigerian students offered admission into American universities are in limbo as delays in U.S. visa processing threaten their chances of resuming this academic session.
Many of them, who completed embassy interviews weeks ago, say they have received no feedback and fear missing critical exams and orientations scheduled for August.
A prospective postgraduate student, Abdul Oluwa, voiced his concerns:
“It’s been more than a month since my interview, yet no update. My school resumes soon, and I can’t even book my flight.”
Education consultant, Sulaimon Okewole, criticised the lack of communication from the embassy:
“Applicants spend a lot on fees and still get no clarity. Holding on to people’s passports for months without updates isn’t fair.”
Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the U.S. has the sole authority to grant visas but advised them to be calm while the matter is being addressed.
